Background:
The school opened 40 years ago in a 'spacious and attractively landscaped setting, leading down to River Severn'. It serves the historic town of Bewdley and the surrounding area. Specialist accommodation includes laboratories, art, pottery and textile studios, a design technology suite, gymnasium, sports hall, music room, library, full-size sports pitches; and separate purpose-built sixth-form block. A #1 million building programme has provided improved mathematics, science, humanities and modern languages accommodation, and a lottery bid has been made to help fund a new drama and music suite. The school is over-subscribed, with 200 applications for 180 places. It aims 'to create an environment that enables all pupils to fulfil their potential, based on reward and encouragement. The school actively fosters equal opportunities and is the designated school in the area for visually-impaired pupils'.
