Background:
Powick CE Primary was opened in 1870 by the Bishop of Worcester and is situated amongst fields on a bank above the A449 Worcester to Malvern Road. As numbers in the village have grown, the original Victorian building has been effectively extended. There are plans to build a new classroom to complete the accommodation and to enable a full single entry of approximately 28 children per year. The school's 'spacious and well kept' grounds offer playing fields, a fenced pond and a copse for environmental work, backing onto the village playing field which has a tennis court and play equipment. The school is rapidly developing its use of information technology. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, cricket, rounders, recorder, orchestra, choir, art, maths and computer clubs. There are 'strong' links with the church and community, including a 'successful partnership' with a local business and an association with University College, Worcester. Children are involved in fund-raising for local and national charities and receive 'strong' parental support.
