Background:
Northleigh Primary opened in 1991. It occupies a building of unusual design, in the shape of a crescent following the line of the Malvern Hills. It is 'one of the most up-to-date schools in the county in terms of design' and its facilities are 'second to none' with 11 classrooms and an 'excellent' hall with a maple sprung floor. In addition to the full range of National Curriculum subjects it offers instrumental lessons during the school day and after-school options covering French, engineers club, football, cricket, rugby, lacrosse, rounders, netball, orienteering, cross-country and orchestra, all offered to both girls and boys. The school enters local tournaments. Individuals have been 'particularly successful' in orienteering and cross-country, and several gymnasts and swimmers have represented the county. While at the school, one pupil gained entry to the Royal Ballet School. Northleigh Primary maintains 'close community links' with two churches, local businesses, dentists and retailers and supports at least three major charities annually. The school is slightly over-subscribed.
