Background:
The school was founded in 1844 and moved to its present site in 1895. Further extensions were added to the buildings in 1959 and 1975 and an extra classroom was completed in 2001. In addition to the core National Curriculum subjects, the school places 'great emphasis' on subjects such as art and design, PE and music, and is 'determined to see that they are not marginalised'. A 'broad range' of extra-curricular activities is offered including football, netball, tag rugby, cricket, rounders, craft club, orchestra, green club and choir. There are close links with the local rural communities and children regularly take part in church services, fetes and other events. Pupils also raise funds for charities such as Barnardos.
